I drew this first graphic after my trip to Mexico last year. I based the image on these figurines I found over there called Catrinas. The Catrina is used for the Day of the Dead festival in November, and is based off the etching La Calavera de la Catrina by Mexican print maker Jose Guadalupe Posada.
As it says in Wikipedia (which BLOG won't let me link to), Catrina is the female form of the word catrin, which translates to elegant. The figurines are usually dressed in fancy dresses and nice suits, standing as humorous social commentary towards the pretentious actions of the rich and fashionable.
Mine is a musician and I think he's a good guy. I'm not really trying to make any statements with this image.
This image comes from a dense dream I had where I found a secret El train station in my basement, which for some reason was being pulled by horses. Since the image was so vivid I decided to draw it up. Note the A on the front, which is the train I take every morning to work.
On another note, I went to Penn State this weekend and took some photos and video. The ride over there always has some beautiful views so you'll be seeing that pretty soon.
